Ellesmere is a prime example of the artist’s captivation with adding unexpected elements to his work but also the influence of juxtaposition in the conceptual design of a piece. Putting loose gems in a pendant is an unexpected way to include faceted stones in jewelry, but some pieces are designed conceptually, as well as physically. Ellesmere has loose stones in a cage. Stones are usually tightly held in jewelry but these are floating free… but contained in a cage…
